Position: 1.0 Music Teacher (Per-diem)
Location: Streams Elementary School
Anticipated Assignment Dates: Immediately-TBD
Summary:
Teaches K-4 at various levels; works cooperatively with staff and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and facilitating general music curriculum and chorus/musical instruction to individual and small groups of students in and out of the classroom.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assists in the instructional delivery of the Upper St. Clair District music curriculum.
- Instructs students at their level to ensure each student’s progress by as much individualized instruction as possible.
- Maintain discipline and utilize appropriate classroom management techniques
- In collaboration with the Principal, colleagues, and Curriculum Leader, presents concerts or programs as dictated by the instruction needs of the students and the valid expectations of the community.
- In collaboration with the Principal and Curriculum Leader, selects music for performances which will further the student’s musical technique, understanding, and appreciation.
- Assists in the preparation for and supervises students in the various performances and assessments throughout the year, if applicable.
- Prepares paperwork such as inventory, purchase orders, instrumental check-out forms, report cards, attendance, library records.
- Supervises students at all performances, rehearsals, and on trips.
- Confer with students, parents, school counselors and administrators to resolve student problems; Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents.
- Cooperate and collaborate with other staff members, including classroom teachers, as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required Education/Certification/Documentation: -Bachelor’s degree in music education -Valid PK-12 Pennsylvania teaching certificate in Music
-Other documents as directed by the school district
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of overall operation of the music program.
- Performance expertise on one or more instruments; fundamental technique in chorus.
- Ability to implement policy and procedures;
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrate knowledge of subjects assigned with a strong emphasis on music;
- Exhibit general knowledge of curriculum and instruction; basic computer skills.
