Position: Van Driver

SUMMARY

Drives school van to safely transport students over specified routes according to a time schedule. Ensure the well-being of the students/passengers and other drivers.  Complies with all federal, state and local traffic regulations, as well as district policies and procedures to provide a safe positive environment for all students and staff.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.) 

  • Drives a school van safely and professionally, including during inclement weather
  • Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip and/or post-trip inspections;
  • Complies with all traffic regulations and ordinances;
  • Complies with District and Transportation Department policies and procedures;
  • Participates in District mandated training;
  • Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents and staff;
  • Prepares reports or memos, as required;
  • Assists students on/off the school van, including students with developmental or physical needs;
  • Maintains order on the school van;
  • Cleans school vehicles vans interior and exterior.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school van;
  • Must have no points on driving record and able to pass physical including drug test and submit to random drug testing.
  • Preferred: Experience driving school students 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. Must have a valid Pa. Class C Driver’s License.
  2. Must pass U.S.C. District Transportation Tests both written and driving skills.
  3. Must pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of Transportation physical and Basic Training Program.

 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  1. Ability to work in a professional and respectful manner with co-workers, parents and students.
  2. Ability to read and understand maps.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  4. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies.
