Description

Position: Maintenance Technician

Assignment:  Full-Time position 

Shift:  Mon-Fri 2:30-11pm (Summer 7am-3:30pm)

Location:  District-wide

SUMMARY 

Perform skilled tasks associated with the maintenance, repair and upgrade of district facility systems and/or structures. Although general duties are listed below, the preferred candidate for this position has experience in electrical.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Maintenance:

  • Read blueprints or technical diagrams and read basic wiring diagramsDesign, install and troubleshoot power, light and control circuits.
  • Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers
  • Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices
  • Repair complex electrical equipment, including automated machines, equipment, controls, panels, relays, circuit breakers, communication systems and Fire Alarms.
  • Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code
  • Basic methods and procedures used in planning and estimating job projects
  • Able to demonstrate electrical knowledge of the following: 120, 208, 277 and 480 volt wiring, single phase, 3 phase wiring, AC and DC currents, series and parallel circuits, data wiring, phone line installation, shunt trip systems, motor controls and wiring.
  • Knowledge of low voltage lighting controls and LED lighting systems. Ability to replace bulbs and ballast. 
  • Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot basic electrical circuits.

General Maintenance:

  • Perform skilled maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as roof, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, masonry, HVAC, paint, snow removal, event set ups and as all other duties are assigned
  • Examine facilities and equipment on a regular basis for purposes of preventative maintenance
  • Estimate costs of repair on new projects
  • Source appropriate parts and purchase after consultation with and approval by manager
  • Install and test new equipment
  • Conduct safety and code inspections and maintain safety records
  • Cut and issue keys
  • Repair and replace locks
  • Inspect pool mechanical systems
  • Maintain pool in accordance with Department of Health regulations (all staff members must obtain Certified Pool Operator licensing within 90 days of being hired into the position)
  • Repair and maintain all types of air conditioning and refrigeration units
  • Repair and maintain air handlers, ventilators, cooling coils, motors and radiators along with other mechanical heating and ventilating equipment
  • Monitor and repair control panels and thermostats of all systems to maintain standard working temperature
  • Monitor computerized central systems and make adjustments
  • Painting and drywall work
  • HVAC filter changes and PM

 All Staff:

  • Serve as a first responder for all emergency situations related to district facility systems, structures and/or buses and other vehicles
  • Order and account for material and labor relative to assignments
  • Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase after consultation with and approval by manager
  • Assure the proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment
  • Immediately report malfunctions and safety issues
  • Complete all required paperwork
  • May be required to be on 24-hour call
  • Other duties as required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree
  • Completion of a trade school certification. 
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ of Electrictical work experience. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid PA drivers’ license with good driving record.  
  • Preferred Certification in at least one of the following:  Master or Journeyman Card; Electrical certifications; Stationary Engineering.

  • Work with a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints
  • Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all inspection regulations, PA traffic and vehicle laws and regulations, safety codes and district requirements and school board policies.  
  • Effective use and knowledge of operating a smartphone, computer, Microsoft Office and/or Google suites, including email, calendar, applications, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exert all physical demands including, stand, push, pull, squat and climb; The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally, the lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. of tools, equipment or materials.  The employee works indoors and outdoors, near or with moving mechanical equipment.  The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

 

Successful candidates will be required to take work capacity evaluation to demonstrate ability to perform physical attributes.
